Plastic Pollution: Could We Have Solved the Problem ??

The ocean provides everything humans need such as food, water, and jobs. It also regulates the climate. Despite currently treating our ocean like an enormous dump. A whole garbage trucks worth plastic ends up in the ocean. Plastic pollution is one of the greatest threats to ocean health worldwide. With skyrocketing plastic production, low levels of recycling, and poor waste management between 4 and 12 million metric tons of plastic enter the ocean each year. Plastic production is expected to double over the next ten years. Although serious problems have arisen as a result of this, there are solutions.

The plastic creates big problems for wildlife and for humans. In the ocean, plastic pollution impacts sea turtles, whales, seabirds, fish, coral reefs, and countless other marine species and habitats. Sea turtles and other ocean creatures become ensnared in carrier bags, stuck in abandoned fishing gear and die with their bellies full of plastics. In fact, scientists estimate that more than half of the world's sea turtles and nearly every seabirds on Earth have eaten plastic in their lifetimes.

It is important that action is taken to defeat these problem. Humans use an incredible quantity of single-use plastic items, such as straws, plastic bags, packaging, plastic cups, plates and cutlery. Everyone must put an end to it to reduce plastic dependency. Most of the plastics used today are produced from oil, and are a source of both climate emissions and pollution. Governments should to investigate implementing a tax or fee on polluting plastics. The fees must be changed so that recycled plastic becomes cheaper than fossil.

To conclude, the ocean is planets largest habitat and also a body of water that composes much of planet’s hydrosphere thats humans need. The plastic problem is enormous, but it can be solved and it is urgent that humans must take steps now to do so.
